Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how the Free YouTube & Web AI Summarizer Chrome Extension ("we", "our", or "the extension") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our browser extension.

Payments for justTLDR subscriptions are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. If you purchase a paid plan, Paddle acts as the seller of record and handles billing, tax/VAT, fraud prevention, and receipts. Limited billing data (e.g., your email, payment token, and country) is shared with Paddle to complete your order. See Paddle's Privacy Policy.

Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be clear that we do not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Personal identification information (like full name or address)
  • Browsing history
  • Login credentials
  • Cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking
  • Raw page content after a summary is created

We do measure basic, pseudonymous product usage (see Analytics below), but we do not build user profiles or sell data.

Data Processing

When you use our extension to summarize content, the following occurs:

  • For web pages: The extension temporarily processes the visible text content of the current webpage to generate a summary. This content is immediately cleared after being copied to your clipboard.
  • For YouTube videos: The extension retrieves the video transcript through YouTube's public API. This transcript data is temporarily processed to generate a summary and is immediately cleared afterward.
  • All summaries are generated using your chosen AI service (ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) through your own account. We do not have access to your AI service accounts or the generated summaries.

Local Storage

The extension stores the following information locally on your device only:

  • Your preferred AI service selection
  • Custom prompt templates you create
  • Extension settings and preferences

This data never leaves your device and is stored using Chrome's secure storage API.

Third-Party Services

The extension integrates with the following third-party services:

  • AI Services (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini): When you use the summarize feature, the content is processed through your chosen AI service. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for information about how they handle your data.
  • YouTube API: For video summarization, we use YouTube's public API to fetch video transcripts. This interaction follows YouTube's terms of service and privacy policy.
  • Paddle Payments: If you upgrade, your payment details are handled by Paddle as our Merchant of Record; we do not store card numbers. See Checkout Buyer Terms.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure anonymous site usage (e.g., page views and clicks). Events are proxied via our server endpoint and don't include personally identifiable information. You can opt out by using a tracker blocker or by not consenting if a consent banner is shown.

Permissions

Our extension requires certain permissions to function:

  • activeTab: To access the current webpage's content for summarization
  • clipboard: To copy summaries to your clipboard
  • storage: To save your preferences locally
  • host permissions: To integrate with AI services and YouTube

Updates to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the extension's documentation and this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
